This IDC study reviews the growth of the Unix server operating environments market during 2007 and provides a shipment and installed base forecast through 2012.

"The Unix market is responding to significant pressure from other operating system choices including Linux and Windows and is holding up surprisingly well," said Al Gillen, research vice president, System Software at IDC. "But this space should be watched carefully, as Sun jockeys for position versus other competitors such as Linux distribution vendors and Microsoft to be favored as the next generation for existing Unix installs."
