As consolidation among carriers continues, the number of overall deals being signed appears to be diminishing. And as the suppliers of operational support system (OSS) solutions themselves consolidate, those deals increasingly are being distributed to a select few.
One-quarter of all OSS deals announced from April 2005 to March 2006 were shared among just six vendors—and around one-half of all the deals could be sourced to only 15 vendors. Geographically, the dominant markets are Western Europe and North America. However, other regions are starting to represent bigger pieces of the pie. The Chinese carrier market is gradually opening to foreign suppliers, and those with the time and money to invest in the opportunity are benefiting.
This Yankee Group Report analyses some of those deals to provide guidance to both the vendor market and to the carriers. To the former, it serves as a potential tool to aid in the targeting of sales efforts; to the latter, it provides insight into the vendor landscape and details the players with whom they may want to partner with as they roll out their OSS strategies.
