This IDC study is an update to and expansion beyond Moving Pictures 2003: Worldwide Camera Phone Survey, Forecast, and Analysis, 2003?2007 (IDC #30157, October 2003). It provides a worldwide forecast, by region, of camera phone shipments through 2008 as well as a global forecast of image sensors for camera phones by complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) and charge-coupled device (CCD), including image sensor ASV and revenue. Also included are a three-tier forecast for camera phone technologies and a high-level global forecast for camera phone cameras by megapixel. Finally, the camera phone forecast is compared with IDC's other camera forecasts for digital still cameras, analog film cameras, and one-time-use film cameras. Commentary on mobile imaging trends is offered as well. "If camera vendors can successfully move away from spec-driven marketing (megapixels) toward marketing by feature sets and lifestyles, digital cameras have the best chance of securing the largest possible market in relation to camera phones." ? Chris Chute, senior analyst, Digital Imaging Solutions and Services "Digital image capture capability is quickly becoming a standard feature among midrange and high-end mobile phones around the world. It is imperative that all the members of the mobile and wireless value chain, from content providers to wireless operators to device vendors, understand how to capitalize on the resultant rapidly expanding revenue opportunity." ? Alex Slawsby, senior analyst, Mobile Devices Table of Contents
