Upscale Broadband: Intel Unveils Rosedale WiMAX Chip to Spur Wireless High-Speed MarketProduct Type: Market Research ReportPublished by: IDC Published: November 2004 Product Code: R104-17671 Description
Semiconductor giant Intel Corp. has unveiled its Rosedale wireless interface chip to enable WiMAX wireless broadband devices that could transform the global high-speed Internet access market. Intel has embraced WiMAX out of a belief that it will extend broadband Internet services to huge underserved markets in China, India and Latin America. The deployment of WiMAX coupled with Rosedale-powered devices will also enable alternative wireless broadband carriers to offer higher-speed transmissions at lower costs -? and greater range than existing technologies, all without wires. That not only makes WiMAX technology of special interest to remote and underserved communities across Canada, but could result in a major challenge to incumbent high-speed Internet access providers -? particularly telephone and cable television companies.
