Gigabit Gains Momentum

This IDC study analyzes the strong momentum that Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) has shown over the past several quarters and explains the underlying drivers for this growth. Max Flisi, research analyst for IDC's Enterprise Networks program, explains that "The numbers already tell us that a migration to GbE has begun, although it will be at least another year before widespread adoption occurs. Vendors need to think about what value-add they can provide to customers over these faster connections because selling a fast switch alone will not suffice anymore."
