This IDC study presents an analysis of the market trends in 2004 and forecasts for the 2005?2009 period based on the user survey conducted by IDC in November 2004 on elearning. The scale of the target market is the total spending of companies in Japan and how elearning content, infrastructure (software), and related services are governed. Recommendations for elearning vendors are also presented based on the analysis. In 2004, the Japan corporate elearning market scale totaled 63.8 billion Yen. This represents a 12.3% growth against the previous year. The compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for the period 2005?2009 is forecast to be 16.6%. Companies are strongly concerned about increasing the efficiency of their training and development operations. High market growth will continue from 2005 onward but the profitability of some elearning content will decrease. At the same time, large companies are mulling over how they can increase their elearning leverage. "Vendors are required to provide solutions that will improve the efficiency of user companies' overall human resource (HR) operations and secure profits at the same time," says Mimei Ito, senior market analyst, IT Services Research, IDC Japan.
