Malaysia Handheld 2005-2009 Vendors Analysis: A Competitive Analysis

This IDC study presents a competitive analysis of the leading device vendors in Malaysia. Driven largely by converged devices, the Malaysia handheld market will continue to see very healthy growth throughout the forecast period. The pen-based handheld device market, once the ultimate in mobile device functionality, is now under pressure to justify its existence behind the mobile phone. The converged mobile device market, once centered on adding telephony to a handheld device, now gains prominence and potential to grow by converging and evolving to resemble mobile phone capabilities.

"Handheld device vendors stand to gain from new pockets of demand if they can successfully transform their PDA competencies into the sphere of consumer devices. Vendors such as HP, palmOne and O2 are beginning to push in this direction," says Andrew Wong, research manager, Personal Computing Team, IDC Malaysia.
