Microsoft Creates Avalanche, a P2P File Distribution Solution

During the annual open day of Microsoft's research lab in Cambridge (U.K.) on June 15, 2005, Microsoft shed some light on a P2P file distribution solution, dubbed Avalanche, which it is currently developing. This follows the announcement Microsoft made on March 10, 2005, regarding its plans to acquire Groove Networks, a pioneer of decentralized peer-to-peer (P2P) collaboration. While the business applications and purposes of Avalanche and Groove Networks are notably different, Microsoft's commitment to P2P technology in recent months is highly indicative of its desire to reinforce its stronghold at the edge of the network.
