Description

This IDC study presents IDC's 2005-2009 forecast for education IT spending. It lists expenditure trends by higher education institutions and K?12 schools, and it also outlines the rollup numbers for "other" education segments. Educational IT spending in the United States has entered a period of low growth. The market remains lucrative for vendors, but tight institutional budgets make it difficult for IT departments to embark on large-scale system updates. Overall CAGR is just 1.6% between 2004 and 2009, but K?12 spending is a bright spot.

"The overall size of the education IT market space continues to make it a lucrative channel for IT vendors," says Shawn P. McCarthy, IDC program manager, U.S. IT Opportunity, Government and Education. "But these are low-growth years for education. K-12 software spending and IT services and hardware for higher education are the ongoing bright spots."
