This IDC Study includes shipment records of Fibre Channel switch (FC switch), which is a key component of SAN (Storage Area Network) in 2001 and 2002 as well as forecast up to 2007. The shipment records are analyzed in terms of unit shipment, port shipment and revenue, while forecast figures are in terms of port shipment and revenue. Besides the shipment records and forecast of FC switch, this study also includes the revenue of SAN disk storage system used in a SAN environment in 2001 and 2002 as well as forecast up to 2007. FC switch refers to fabric/loop switches and director switches. This study does not include the shipment record or forecast of FC hubs. This study does not include data on ESCON (Enterprise System Connection) or FICON (Fiber Connection) products either. "Storage investment will continue to face a severe situation in 2003 amid the uncertain economic climate, but SAN-related investment is expected to steadily increase backed by the growing demand for improvement of storage management efficiency and for TCO reduction. As a result, the factory revenue of FC switches in 2003 is expected to grow by 34.6% from the previous year," says Masaaki Moriyama, Research Manager, Storage Systems, IDC Japan.
