Description

This IDC study presents the 2005 results of IDC's Asia/Pacific Communication Survey of businesses in 11 countries from this region. Based fundamentally on primary research derived through interviews with corporate end users, IDC highlights the communication trends with regard to wireless LAN adoption in this study. There were a total of 2,163 business respondents from six different verticals, namely banking/financial markets/insurance, communication/media/transport, government/education/healthcare,retail/wholesale,manufacturing/construction/resource, and services/utilities. The survey findings were presented in total, by country, by vertical industry as well as by company size.

"Asian enterprises remain skeptical about the implementation of WLAN since 62% of the companies interviewed did not have any plans at all for integrating WLAN into their business. However, there is a very healthy growth in terms of actual and planned usage for WLAN, relative to IDC's survey findings from 2004. The potential for WLAN in the corporate environment is being tapped increasingly as businesses are attracted to its convenience and ease of use, ease of network management, its positive effect on enhancing business processes, as well as compelled by the rising need for mobility. Additionally, service providers and equipment vendors are also aggressively addressing market acceptance, security concerns, and corporate requirements for functionality," observes Grace Yeo, research manager, Asia/Pacific Communications Research, IDC Asia/Pacific.
