Description

This document analyzes the Western European DSL equipment during the first half of 2005. It focuses on vendor market shares for both network equipment (e.g., DSL access multiplexer [DSLAM] and other forms of public DSL access) and customer premises equipment (CPE). Public access is defined as termination into an Internet service provider (ISP), public telephone operator (PTO), or other network service provider. Vendors' market shares are calculated according to unit shipments and end-user revenues. In addition, vendors' shares are divided on a country-by-country basis. Furthermore, network equipment is divided by technology while CPE are separated by form factor.

"The first half of 2005 was another record period in terms of DSL network port shipments in Western Europe," said Jan Hein Bakkers, Research Manager at IDC, "as strong take-up of broadband access, as well as migrations towards ADSL2+, were driving forces behind this growth."
