This IDC study analyzes the competition among vendors in the Japan client PC market and identifies the current positions of the market players (PC vendors). Competition analyses were done from various angles, including with the use of the IDC Leadership Grid. This study also discusses the strategies that vendors need to adopt based on the results of the analyses. Kumi Shingyouchi, senior market analyst, Personal Computing Research, IDC Japan, says, "In the present environment where the gaps between the market shares of the top vendors have shrunk and competition is growing increasingly intense, price competitiveness has become a necessary condition and no longer a differentiating factor.
