Push to Talk: Hype or Real ARPU Winner?Product Type: Market Research ReportPublished by: IDC Published: January 2006 Product Code: R104-25656 Description
This IDC study finds out if push to talk (PTT) has lived up to the promise of new revenue opportunity. This study analyses the current industry scenario and new developments related to PTT in the Asia Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ region. "While PTT originated in the North America market, it found new sponsors in the APEJ region where several carriers from mature and emerging markets have deployed PTT system. Factors like the proliferation of 2.5G and 3G networks, growing need for mobile phones among enterprise workers, and an evolving PTT platform integrated with a core IP network fuelled the growth of PTT. However, factors like cultural inhibitions, lack of handset options, call latency, and the absence of interoperability proved to be severe barriers," says Shalini Verma, contributing author, Telecommunications Research, IDC Asia/Pacific.
