This IDC study provides both quantitative and qualitative analysis of the 2005 U.S. MFP and digital copier markets. The total U.S. MFP market in 2005 grew by 15% year on year in terms of unit shipments, while in terms of value, the growth was a much lower 5%. In 2005, the unit shipments totaled 17.1 million units valued at $11.1 billion. The overall average selling value (ASV) stood at $645, down by 8% when compared with the ASV in 2004. Some of the technology highlights of 2005 were: Color inkjet unit shipments grew by 14% from 13.3 million units to 15.1 million units. Monochrome laser MFP shipments went up by 16% from 1.55 million units to 1.79 million units. The ASV in 2005 stood at $3,564, 16% lower than the ASV recorded in 2004. Color laser MFPs continued to grow at a very high rate of 77% in 2005. The total unit shipments stood at a little over 215,000 units valued at $2.6 billion."The overall MFP market showed positive growth rates across all technologies in 2005. Inkjet MFP growth helped strengthen its presence over its single-function counterparts with a majority share during 2005.
