Western European DSL Equipment Competitive Analysis, 2006

Product Type: Market Research Report
Published by: IDC
Published: June 2006
Product Code: R104-26563
Description

This document analyzes the Western European DSL equipment market during 2005. It focuses on vendor market shares for both network equipment (e.g., DSL access multiplexer [DSLAM] and other forms of public DSL access) and customer premises equipment (CPE). Public access is defined as termination into an Internet service provider (ISP), public telephone operator (PTO), or other network service provider. Vendors' market shares are calculated according to unit shipments and end-user revenues. In addition, vendors' shares are divided on a country-by-country basis. Furthermore, network equipment is divided by technology while CPEs are separated by form factor.

"2005 was a record year for the DSL equipment market in Western Europe, as shipments of both network ports and CPEs reached unprecedented levels," said Jan Hein Bakkers, research manager, European Telecommunications and Networking, IDC. "Strong take-up of broadband access, as well as migrations towards ADSL2+, were the driving forces behind this performance."
