Japan PC 2006-2009 Forecast and 3Q05 Vendor Shares: Product Analysis

This IDC study analyzes the 3Q05 Japan PC market, illuminates its current trends, and provides a market forecast for it. The increasingly diversified portable PC market is analyzed by screen size. Calculations pertaining to the market as a whole are based on data for x86 servers, desktops, and portable PCs (all product types). The annual data in this report are based on actual market results for the years up to 2004 and based on forecast values for 2005 and beyond. As for quarterly data, the figures pertaining to the period up to 3Q05 (July-September) are actual results while the figures pertaining to 4Q05 (October-December) and beyond are forecast values. All the figures have been updated as of December 2005.

Due to the impact of LCD panel supply and price changes, the shift toward widescreen PCs will also take place in Japan but at a gradual pace. It is necessary for vendors to implement product planning/supply based on market needs."
