The decline in LAN switch port shipments and revenues was caused by the fact that growth in the demand for Gigabit Ethernet LAN switches could not offset the decline in demand for Fast Ethernet LAN switches," said Peter Hulleman, research manager with IDC's European Telecommunications and Networking group.
