The network connectivity forecast is segmented into forecasts representing the total network connectivity market in Western Europe ? meaning all form factors, such as NIC, LOM, and Mini PCI ? and forecasts representing figures only for NIC cards. Country forecasts of network connectivity shipments and revenue by technology, along with total installed base figures, are available upon request.

Countries include Germany, France, the U.K., Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, and Greece. Technologies include 10/100Mbps Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, and WLAN.

"Traditional card vendors should be aware that cards are mainly used in the first phase of the technology development and as upgrades for already-installed systems. This is especially true for demand for wireless cards; by 2010 IDC expects 93% of all add-on cards to be wireless," said Evelien Wiggers, IDC senior research analyst, European Telecommunications and Networking.
