IBM Leverages Virtualization on POWER6 for Workload Consolidation

This IDC Flash describes IBM's announcement of new volume servers based on the POWER6 RISC processor. By bringing POWER6 to the volume server segment, IBM is completing the process of placing POWER6 processors throughout its Unix server product line, including volume, midrange, and high-end models. It also analyzes IBM's branding of the PowerVM hypervisor for POWER processors as a competitor in the virtualization space, for both RISC and x86 server platforms.
