It looks at the market performance of desktop and portable PCs and provides some commentary on x86 servers in major geographies, including the United States, Western Europe, Japan, Asia/Pacific excluding Japan (APEJ), and the rest of the world. Details on unit shipments, market value, and average selling price are provided, along with a review of the competitive performance of the top PC vendors. "The PC market expanded by 16.5% in the fourth quarter, driven by sustained notebook adoption and strong demand in emerging markets. As in previous periods, notebook shipments remained the leading form factor, aided by a drop in average selling prices in addition to relatively strong holiday sales. While desktop shipments remained positive, growth in mature regions remained under pressure, essentially continuing to contract," says IDC analyst Doug Bell. Table of Contents
