The home PC market returned to year-on-year negative unit shipment growth rate in 3Q07. However, the business PC market finally showed signs of recovery as it emerged out of the trough of the replacement cycle. "Environmental approaches have become more and more important to user companies in 2008 from the perspective of green IT. Better CPUs not only improve PC performance but also significantly reduce power consumption. Therefore, PC power consumption and control of heat release value will be one of the major marketing points from the perspectives of office environment and ecology. PC vendors should market the environmental aspect for PC that were previously delivered and propose the acceleration of the replacement cycle," observes Masahiro Katayama, group manager, PCs, IDC Japan.
