Brazil Telecom Services: Business Mobility - Focus Group with CIOs

In the first quarter of 2008 IDC conducted a round table on business mobility with CIOs of large enterprises in Brazil. The objective was to understand the perspective of the end-users regarding investment plans and current challenges regarding business mobility.

Business mobility is a term used to describe the possibility of working out of the office just as if you were at the office, that is, with access to all the tools available at the office. Therefore, the adoption of business mobility solutions can allow an enterprise to increase productivity. Currently laptops and smartphones (or PDAs) are some of the business mobility solutions that have been adopted. Although the use of laptops as a business mobility solution is relative established, the same cannot be said for smartphones. Therefore, the main solution discussed at this business mobility round table was the smartphone device and its services and applications.

In this update, IDC will expose all the topics discussed in the round table, including the poor support available to end-users, the flawed security for the manipulated data, the inexistence of applications to be used on the devices and the current platforms in the market. In addition, each CIO challenge will be exposed. Finally, results from a survey on business mobility of Brazilian enterprises will be presented, indicating the current and future levels adoption of the technology.
