Education institutions that IDC interviewed in 2Q06 have adopted a variety of industry-specific solutions, primarily student management, classroom applications, and portals. In this study IDC provides an analysis of results of the IDC Vertical Market Survey carried out in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the U.K. The results are based on 39 interviews in the education market. This study, which analyzes industry-specific solution adoption and investment plans, is the third in a series of studies that include analysis of IS budget plans, analysis of enterprise solution adoption and investment plans, and analysis of adoption of new technologies. "Vendors that want to capture a share of future investments must offer custom student management to all levels of school, elearning platforms to IT executives in universities and colleges, and simple digital learning content to schools; large IT service vendors must target universities," said Massimiliano Claps, program manager, Public Sector Research, IDC European Vertical Markets.
