Product Type: Market Research Report
Published by: BCC Research
Published: March 2006
Product Code: R2-1164Description REPORT HIGHLIGHTS
- Total market volume for the major applications/products based on organic electrooptical materials is estimated to be $ 2.6 billion for 2005. BCC estimates that by 2011, it will reach a value of $10.5 billion, at an AAGR of 32.4%.
- This impressive growth is a result of the increasing demand for OEOM’s two main applications (namely, displays and telecommunications) and the products associated with them. These will be described below.
- The total 2005 market for organic-based displays is estimated to be $615 million. This accounts for about 24% of the total market, based on OEOM by 2005. By 2011, BCC estimates that the total market for organic-based displays will reach $3.1 billion (29% of the total market for products based on OEOM).
INTRODUCTION
This BCC Research report is the first of its kind to cover the emerging electro-optics industry based on organic and polymeric materials. It provides a detailed discussion of the market and an analysis of economic parameters such as market volumes, needs and opportunities, as well as future technological challenges. The report also analyzes current and future organic-based electro-optical devices and applications.
Photonic devices fabricated from organic and polymeric materials are gaining the recognition and attention of the electro-optical industrial community. As a result, organic- based devices are currently experiencing accelerated development efforts driven by the telecommunications, optical storage and display markets.
Fabricating organic materials into electro-optical devices has many advantages, as well as enormous information-age market potential. However, only now do these technologies appear to be reaching a critical mass as the next generation in several key technologies. Driving this trend are continuing and accelerating developments in both manufacturing process technology, including novel nano designs and fabrications, and new materials systems.
This unique study is directed to strategic planners, marketers, forecasters, product managers, new business developers and decision makers in companies that deal with materials and applications in the chemical and electro-optical industries.
SCOPE OF STUDY
This report:
- Investigates the current applications and future potential of organic and polymeric electro-optical devices
- Characterizes and analyzes current and future worldwide markets for the key existing and potential applications of organic-based electro-optics
- Analyzes the relative strengths and drawbacks of various products and applications
- Identifies and analyzes the major industrial players actively involved in various aspects of the field of organic-based electro-optics
- Identifies current major developments relating to materials used for electro-optical devices and systems
- Analyzes the technology, patents, and major research and development players in the field.
METHODOLOGY AND INFORMATION SOURCES
The analyses presented in this study are based on information derived from professional journals, technical literature, specific information and catalogs, and online sources. In addition, we conducted interviews with industry leaders and sources, mostly in the U.S. and Europe, and in some of the Pacific Rim countries, as well as with several researchers in leading universities in Europe and the U.S. We also analyzed available online and commercial sources that contained relevant financial and market information, and added our own assessments to that information.
In addition, we consulted BCC reports that we considered relevant to the present topic. BCC has conducted several studies in the field of electro-optics and optical materials. We think this report adds an additional dimension to reports already in existence, such as market-oriented technological analyses and forecasts of the dramatically increasing field of organic and polymeric-based electro-optics.
