Using ISOs to Distribute Remote Deposit Capture Services: The Fox Guarding the Henhouse?Product Type: Market Research ReportPublished by: TowerGroup Published: May 2009 Product Code: R301-1634 Description Independent service organizations (ISOs) are targeting remote deposit capture (RDC) as an add-on service for existing merchant credit and debit card processing relationships. The growth in ISO-provided RDC highlights the disintermediation risk to financial institutions failing to market and deliver RDC effectively to merchant and small business customers. Using an independent RDC provider introduces an intermediary into the financial supply chain and has the potential for adding counterparty risk and complicating exception management. New integrated payment terminals allow merchants to use one device for card processing and remote check capture at the point of sale (POS). As ISO distribution of bank-based RDC evolves, banks need to ensure that ISOs do not introduce risk into the merchant's environment by compromising standards for fraud detection, security, risk mitigation, and image quality.
