France Telecommunications Report Q3 2007Product Type: Market Research ReportPublished by: Business Monitor International Published: November 2007 Product Code: R302-1707 Description In this Q307 quarterly update for the French telecoms market, BMI has made substantial revisions to themobile market analysis section of the report, incorporating new data on the recent development of theFrench mobile market. In the first three months of 2007, the number of mobile subscribers in France grewby just 0.32% to reach 50.033mn. Despite its relatively low subscriber growth rates, at just over 83%,France continues to have one of the lowest mobile penetration rates in Western Europe. Furthermore, based on data published by France’s mobile operators, the number of mobile subscribers appears to havegrown by 4.8% in 2006; the expectation is that slow steady growth will continue over the next few years. The strong performance, in recent months, by several French mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs)appears set to continue; MVNOs expanded their total subscriber base by 397.5% in 2006 (compared withjust 1.6% growth for the three network operators). We have retained our previous forecast figures for the development of the French internet and mobilemarkets; these figures were updated in the previous quarter, to take into account new data provided by theoperators and by the regulator ARCEP (the Autorité de Régulation des Communications Electroniques etdes Postes). Since the publication of our Q207 report, however, ARCEP has released year-end 2006 dataon the state of the French fixed-line sector; this has led us to revise our previous fixed-line forecastfigures. According to ARCEP, the total number of fixed-line subscriptions actually grew by 4.6%, with a5.3% decline in the number of PSTN-supported services and a 2.6% decline in the number of ISDN linesbeing partially offset by a 94.8% increase in the number of VoIP subscriptions, and a 55.7% increase inthe number of cable-based telephony subscriptions.
