A sharp slowdownhit spending in H109, but demand is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of7.7% to US$5.3bn by 2013, driven by LCD TV sets, notebook computers, digital cameras and other keyproducts, and also by rising incomes and greater credit availability.The trading environment remains challenging in 2009 and the proposed tax on ‘luxury goods’ such asmobile phones is a downside risk to our forecast scenario. However, continued (if slower) growth inspending should see per capita consumer electronics spend rise from US$97 in 2009 to US$126 in 2013.Computers Computer hardware accounted for around 50% of Argentine consumer electronics spending in 2008. BMI forecasts Argentine domestic market PC sales (including notebooks and accessories) of U$1.5bn in 2009. In Q109, volume sales suffered a double-digit percentage decline, followed by a further highsingle-digit fall in Q2. Computer hardware CAGR for the 2009-2013 period is forecast at about 5.6%, with PC penetration currently below 25%. AV AV devices accounted for around 38% of Argentine consumer electronics spending in 2008. Argentina’s domestic AV device market is projected at US$1.65bn this year. Sales of digital TV sets and digital cameras are projected to drive AV spending growth at a projected CAGR of 6.8% between 2009 and 2013. Mobile Handsets Mobile handset sales accounted for around 12% of Argentine consumer electronics spending in 2008. Following a reverse in 2009, Argentine market handset sales are expected to grow at aCAGR of 5% to US$529mn in 2013, as mobile subscriber penetration reaches 125%. Sales will be dominated by the replacement market, with growing demand for smartphones, PDAs and 3G handsets. Table of Contents
