Panalpina is a leading provider of intercontinental air and ocean freight forwarding services and associated supply chain management solutions. The group operates through more than 500 offices in 90 countries and also maintains its presence in 60 countries by partnering with other companies. The group is the third largest air freight forwarder in the world and transported a total air freight of about 874,000 tons in 2006. The group is also a fourth largest player in the global ocean freight segment, and transported a total ocean freight of about 1084,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2006. The group has recorded strong profitability during the fiscal year 2006. The operating profit of the group was CHF209 million (approximately $208.8 million) during fiscal year 2006, an increase of 69.9% over 2005. The net profit was CHF181.6 million (approximately $145.3 million) in fiscal year 2006, an increase of 54.8% over 2005.
