Highlights- Marine transportation segment witnessed consolidation to counter the rising operating costs driven by high oil prices and global economic slowdown. M&A activity in the air transportation sector was largely focused on increasing scale and improving operating margins through cost synergies.
- The transport and logistics sector recorded 57 M&A deals in July 2008, a decrease of 22.4% as compared to the trailing six month (Jan 2008-Jun 2008) average. In value terms, it recorded deals worth $8.3bn, an increase of 16%. Over the same period, M&A activity in the emerging markets declined by 29.4% in volume terms and 94.4% in value terms.
- The companies in the transport and logistics sector entered into partnerships to enhance their product/services portfolio, improve vertical integration and reduce operational costs.
