PRODUCTS, OPERATIONS & TECHNOLOGY Public schools provide education in basic subjects through a curriculum that is relatively similar in all schools. Students are usually grouped by age. A typical school district with 5,000 students has six elementary schools (grades K-5); two middle, or junior high, schools (grades 6-8); a high school (grades 9-12); and an annual budget of $35 million.
