Description
Consumers love portable games, which Yankee Group defines as games played on mobile phones, handheld game systems (i.e., Game Boy Advance [GBA], Nintendo DS, Sony PlayStation Portable [PSP]), handheld computers, PDAs, MP3 players or digital audio players (DAPs). In the Yankee Group 2006 US Portable/Mobile Entertainment Survey, 42% of respondents indicated that they play games on one or more of these platforms.

Among individual platforms, mobile phones (29%) are the most popular device for portable gaming, followed by handheld game systems with 18%. DAPs and MP3 players are new to the market. Although only 4% of portable users play games on DAPs or MP3 players, this segment is poised for growth with the availability of game downloads on iTunes.
