The Home Network Matures and Gains SteamProduct Type: Market Research ReportPublished by: Yankee Group Published: January 2008 Product Code: R388-2536 Description Although broadband adoption will always play a major role in home networking adoption, other factors are
driving demand. Instead of service providers supplying basic home network services, device makers are making
the home network more interesting for consumers.Service providers are fueling broadband adoption and as a result, spurring the growth of home networking. According to the Yankee Group Anywhere Consumer: 2007 US Penetration and Usage Survey, more than 75% of households (HHs) now have broadband. However, despite the uptick in broadband adoption, home networking adoption is used in only 35% of broadband HHs. Nearly two-thirds of respondents have a wireless network that frees a home of wires and enables wireless broadband sharing, but limits streaming speeds. The vast majority of consumer premises equipment shipped today are routers with embedded Wi-Fi capabilities. Many home devices and consumer electronics are also Wi-Fi capable, thus creating a home network where both wired and wireless devices can connect and communicate. Table of Contents
