Product Type: Market Research Report
Published by: Ovum Plc
Published: July 2009
Product Code: R464-1537Description The number of net additions of FTTx subscribers grew a healthy 24% in 1Q09 over 4Q08. Activity in Japan, which has been a leader in FTTx installation, has slowed in 2009, but China is getting very aggressive in its FTTx deployments; if the three major operators follow through on their stated plans, China could become the country with the largest number of subscribers having service over FTTx. Global DSL shipments were down 9% sequentially and 11% over 1Q08. The sequential trend was flat in Asia-Pacific and declining in all other regions. VDSL2 shipments were up 6% sequentially and a healthy 23% over 1Q08 compared to double-digit sequential and year-ago quarter declines in the ADSL market, indicating growth related to fiber deployments, particularly in North America. Global and North American CMTS shipments declined for the third time sequentially, with North American shipments shrinking to a little more than half of 2Q08 levels.
