Cingular's enterprise mobility strategyProduct Type: Market Research ReportPublished by: Ovum Plc Published: August 2006 Product Code: R464-186 Description Cingular is the most advanced in serving the US wireless business market, although both Sprint and Verizon Wireless have generated more revenue from business customers. Cingular’s experience in the market shows in the maturity of its offerings and its communication with businesses. It also has the widest range of business devices of any of the major US carriers and its range of BlackBerry devices is particularly strong. However, Cingular has been slow to market with 3G services and is several months behind both Sprint and Verizon Wireless in rolling out 3G coverage. It is also still tied up in integration work flowing from its acquisition of AT&T Wireless, which means it still has a lot of duplicated processes and inefficiencies to iron out. On the plus side, this has pushed it into a $250 million IT transformation project which should produce systems which are much more suited to supporting business communication services. Its impending absorption into AT&T provides opportunities and additional challenges. It should be better able to leverage the combined strengths of the two companies in wireline and wireless services, but training the sales teams to sell both portfolios will take time, and competitor Sprint Nextel is well ahead in this regard. Verizon Wireless meanwhile faces similar challenges and has not yet found a way out of its relationship with Vodafone, which is the biggest current barrier to closer integration with Verizon Telecom. Overall, continued innovation, the rollout of 3G, the launch of push-to-talk offerings and other positive changes position Cingular well for the future in the business wireless market.
