Product Type: Market Research Report
Published by: In-Stat
Published: August 2002
Product Code: R97-1032Description This report provides market statistics on the number of firms, establishments, and employees in the enterprise business market by both the size of business and vertical industry perspectives. The research also provides data on the primary work environments of employees in this market, including the number of telecommuters, Internet-accessing telecommuters, and remote branch office employees. Detailed five-year forecasts are included for all enterprise business demographics, as well as a discussion of current market trends.
Despite the troubles faced by some prominent firms in this market, the number of enterprise firms has been rising for the last several years, primarily due to mergers and consolidations among smaller firms. Interestingly, a result of this kind of growth (due to the merging of two smaller firms) has led to a decrease in the size of the average firm, in terms of employees per firm, with this trend expected to continue through 2006. Past 2006, or possibly sooner, In-Stat/MDR expects the size of this market to actually start to shrink, as it is nearing its apex in terms of size. In-Stat/MDR estimates that there will be roughly 12K firms in the enterprise business market by the end of 2002, employing more than 55 million workers. These firms are expected to support nearly 1.2K Remote Branch Offices (RBOs) and roughly 13.3 million telecommuters at that time, or roughly 105 RBOs and 1,100 telecommuters per firm.
