4Q 2002 Terabit Router Market Analysis

Product Type: Market Research Report
Published by: In-Stat
Published: February 2003
Product Code: R97-1183
Description
Overall, the total router market increased 30% from 3Q 02, due to the increase in low-end router shipments. Revenue increased by 11% in the quarter because of increased sales of service provider core routers, which carry a high Average Selling Price (ASP). Linksys remained the market share leader in overall router unit shipments with 36.6% market share. In 2002, the total router market increased by 82% from 2001, due mainly to the large amount of SOHO router shipments. The uptake of wireless SOHO routers, gateways, and branch office routers drove the entire market to new heights. On average, 63.8% of router shipments were in North America, and 15.3% and 13.9% of routers were shipped in Europe and Asia-Pacific, respectively. The service provider core router market increased 10% in 4Q 02 from 3Q 02. Juniper made a huge statement this quarter by taking market share away from the number one leader, Cisco, in service provider core router shipments.

This report includes detailed revenue and shipment market shares, regional breakouts, and a rolling, three-quarter forecast of the service provider router market (core and edge), enterprise, branch office and SOHO router segments.
