Product Code: R97-1277Description Smart appliances include an ever-growing number of products by a variety of companies. While the industry is not growing by leaps and bounds in terms of unit shipments, there are still many companies interested in these products. Smart appliances are those devices that access the Internet to enhance their core functions.
In-Stat/MDR has divided the smart appliance industry into two main categories: Internet-enabled consumer electronics and white-goods. Internet consumer electronics include audio products, picture frames, analog Internet TV, and e-mail devices. In addition, this year we will also see the first "SPOT" devices. These products, the first of which will be watches, will use DirectBand technology to access Internet content rather than more traditional methods. The white goods segment, which is divided into major and portable appliances, will continue to see new product introductions in both categories in 2003.
This report will review the market and some of the drivers and hurdles facing the industry. Specific devices and manufacturers in each segment will be profiled and particular trends facing each segment will be discussed. In addition, each segment will be forecasted over the 2002-2007 period and a cumulative industry forecast will be presented.Table of Contents |
