Product Code: R97-2615Description While an increasing portion of flat-panel TV sets currently hitting the market are HDTV-capable and becoming more affordable, the number of broadcasters creating and transmitting commercial HDTV content are still limited in a majority of the Asia/Pacific markets. The main obstacle for deploying HDTV has been the lack of sufficient bandwidth for satellite, terrestrial, cable, and IP networks. Most Asia/Pacific regional operators are not convinced about the feasibility of HDTV to allocate considerable amount of resources to HDTV at the cost of the numbers of channels they offer in standard definition TV.
Recognizing all the major issues mentioned previously, and despite a relatively small market size in terms of HDTV's subscription services revenue and HD display set shipment when compared to conventional TV broadcasting market, In-Stat firmly believes in the future prosperity of the HDTV industry in the Asia/Pacific region.
The Asia/Pacific HDTV display market amounted to 4.1 million in total unit shipments in 2005. The HDTV market in the region is expected to continue with a solid CAGR of 43.9% for unit shipment growth and 24.1% for revenue income, from 2005-2011. In the meantime, the HDTV service subscribers in the Asia/Pacific region are expected to reach 39 million in 2011, expanding from about 8 million in mid-2006.Table of Contents
