Description
This report presents survey data about broad IT purchasing behavior in the government market, as well as, data specific to WAN services and wireless data services.

The government market includes all organizations of the federal government, state governments, and local governments, which include county, municipal, township, and special district governments.

Government organizations are not often on the cutting edge when it comes to IT, but survey data shows that 48% viewed IT as a critical and essential investment area and invested in leading but proven technologies, compared to 34% of other respondents. Survey results show that decision-makers in this vertical will allow a longer time to a satisfactory return on IT investments than those in other verticals.

For government organizations, the most important factors when purchasing WAN services were reducing operating costs and improving network security, similar to other firms. Similar to other verticals, nearly all WAN services purchases in the government vertical were at least somewhat centralized, with some purchases going through headquarters, and half were completely centralized.

When selecting a wireless data service provider, government organizations were most likely to find geographic coverage and service quality important. As far as the primary benefits expected from implementing a wireless data solution, government decision-makers indicated increased employee productivity and efficiency most often.
