2Q 2001 MultiService WAN Switch Market Analysis

This was a tough quarter for MultiService WAN switch sales, as service providers and enterprises significantly reduced their spending, with the slowdown in the economy. Total worldwide MultiService WAN switch manufacturer sales revenues were $1.04 billion. This is a decrease of 28% from 1Q 2001, where sales had still been quite strong. About 75% of the sales were for ATM-related equipment (the ATM category includes IP and MPLS functions of MultiService switches), and 25% of the sales were for Frame Relay.
