4Q 2001 MultiService WAN Switch Market Analysis

MultiService WAN switch sales decreased again this quarter, continuing the decline witnessed in the previous three quarters. Total worldwide MultiService WAN switch manufacturer sales revenues were $836 million. This is a decrease of 9% from 3Q 2001, and a drop of 44% from 4Q 2000. About 72% of the sales were for ATM-related equipment (the ATM category also includes IP and MPLS functions of MultiService switches), and 28% of the sales were for Frame Relay.
