This report presents user programmable logic worldwide merchant market vendor market share for the third and fourth quarters, as well as second half, of 1998. Included in the report are discussions as to the realities of last year and a look and the possibilities for this year. While Altera maintained its leadership position, Xilinx is keeping the pressure on in an attempt to regain the top spot. Vendor market shares for 3Q98 and 4Q98 are compared to their previous quarter (2Q98 and 3Q98, respectively) and to the same quarter of the previous year (3Q97 and 4Q97, respectively). Market shares for the second half of 1998 are compared to both the first half of 1998 as well as the second half of 1997. Market shares are also presented by process technology, i.e., bipolar and MOS (CMOS), as well as by product type; simple PLD, complex PLD, and FPGA. An updated look at this year by quarter, for the simple PLD, complex PLD, and FPGA segments is also contained within this report.
